About your Art Therapist and my approach to therapy.
My name is Sarah Fraske and I am an Art Therapist. You can find my credentials, and the story of how I got into Art Therapy on my website http://www.sebbysstudio.com. I use a person-centered approach to therapy where I am compassion-focused and committed to help guide you in healing, personal growth and well-being, reconnecting with oneself, and calming the chaos in your life through the creation of art. By building a space of safety and trust, non-judgment and compassion, reliability, and honesty, I will be able to help guide you on a journey of self-discovery where you will learn more about yourself and how to navigate trying times, and to trust yourself and your instinct. We will get to this deeper level by creating art and reflecting. Taking time for ourselves for healing, peace, and self-care. I promise to my clients that each session will be personally curated to suit your needs in that moment in time. I promise to follow all ethical standards and to continue learning and being involved in the art therapy community as my practice goes on. I promise to always be honest with my clients and meet them in any forms of communication they seem most comfortable with. If you find at any time you are uncomfortable, please let me know and I will do all I can to make the appropriate adjustments. If I cannot, then I will help refer you to another agency that will be more suitable for you.

Therapy Session
Each session will follow a basic guided timeline, but each session will be unique to the client, and how they are feeling in this moment of time and space. As therapist and client, we will look at was planned, what is needed, and what is beneficial, and then move forward with the session from there. Each session has a beginning, middle and end. We will check in once you arrive and decide on how to move forward with our time The session will be curated for you in that moment of time. At the end of the session, we will reflect and close out and discuss what to expect for our next meeting.
Recommended Schedule
A commitment to weekly or bi-weekly sessions is encouraged to maintain the therapeutic relationship and the continuity and focus of the work.
Duration of Therapy
Therapy can last anywhere from a couple of months to some years, it all depends on what you want and need. Some people come to therapy with a specific problem to work on or goals they want to focus on and might find that a few months of therapy is sufficient. Others may find that the journey to self-discovery and connecting with internal resources takes time and will choose to continue the therapeutic process for longer. We will continue to check in regularly and reevaluate together to discern where you feel you are at and how we can best meet your needs.
Ending Therapy
You are free to terminate you therapy sessions at any time. There is a closing process that we can explore when you feel you are ready to have your sessions come to an end.
Risks Associated with Art Therapy
i) THERAPEUTIC
Therapy is often challenging work for a variety of reasons. A common reason is that suppressed feelings may emerge. This can sometimes make things feel worse before they feel better. You may notice thoughts, feelings, and nuances of your relationships that may not have been in your consciousness before. You may experience feelings you wished you never had or uncover unwanted aspects of yourself. As your Art Therapist, I will guide and support you during this process, but the work is done by you and that work can feel heavy sometimes. Therapy can often naturally result in you making changes or looking at yourself differently. It can change how you live, and it can change how you feel about your relationships. As your Art Therapist, I will help you to anticipate these changes and will let you decide what changes are best for you, and when. It is important to recognize that not every modality of therapy is effective for everyone. If you have been in therapy for several weeks or months, and it does not feel like you are making progress, you are encouraged to speak with me to explore how therapy is going and if continuing work together is in your best interest. It may be that you would do better with a different approach to therapy, or even with a different therapist. As therapists, we know that we cannot be everything to everybody, and we are comfortable helping you make a change if needed.
ii) FINANCIAL
Therapy can be costly especially if the duration goes on for quite some time. Although I do my best to accommodate my clients who are experiencing financial difficulties, by offering sliding scale spots, it is important to set your expectations around the financial challenges ongoing therapy may pose and consider exploring options that may help you cover the cost of your sessions.
iii) TECHNICAL
As with the use of technology in any context, we must make ourselves aware of the potential risks of attending therapy sessions online.
Risks and consequences may include but are not limited to:
- The possibility that the transmission of information could be disrupted or distorted by technical failures resulting in service disruption or termination despite best efforts to ensure high encryption and secure technology on our part
- The transmission of information could be interrupted by unauthorized persons
- Unforeseen technical problems such as connection issues or power failures
If we are disconnected, I will be available on my phone 07597590050
I will do everything in my power to ensure that our sessions remain secure and will ensure that each of my clients has a unique link for their individual therapy sessions that is password protected. A virtual waiting room will also be in place to ensure no one else can enter the session without my permission. I use all forms of technology approved by CATA (Canadian Art Therapy Association) and follow an online security checklist from the CRPO (College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario). I use security encrypted email from Proton mail and do all online meet ups through Zoom which are both PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronics Documents Act)/PIPA (Personal Information Protection Act) compliant.
Confidentiality
Information discussed in art therapy sessions will remain confidential, except I may break confidentiality in the following instances: 1. if the client makes written request for the release of information. 2. if there is risk of serious or foreseeable harm to any person (the client or another person). 3. if I need to share information with my supervisor, with another professional for consultation, with a health care provider treating the client in an emergency, or with other mental health professionals when necessary to coordinate the client’s care. These professionals are also obligated to maintain confidentiality.
I may also share your work if I receive an Art Therapy Media Release form signed by the client and myself.
Your Rights as a Client
At any time during our client/therapist relationship, you may ask to look at your file (personal contact information, progress notes, referral notes, billing documentation and artwork). Upon receipt of a written request, your file will be made available to you within one month of the request.
For me to be able to honour and uphold your privacy needs, I need to know if and how you would like to be greeted if we happen to meet each other in public. In the space below, please let me know how you would like to be greeted. For example, pretending we do not know each other, or just introduce ourselves as acquaintances etc. Please write how you would like me to handle a public interaction.
Your File and its Storage
Your file will contain your personal contact information, session notes, billing information, referral notes, if any, and artwork that you have not taken home with you or destroyed yourself. All of this is recorded and stored for the purpose of keeping track of appointment dates, important details of what you share and summaries of our sessions. No other information will be kept on file. All files are updated after each session and locked in an electronic record-keeping system that provides protection against unauthorized access. Your file is password protected and can only be accessed with my user id and password. Other mechanisms that are in place to prevent unauthorized access or alterations to your file include the locking of the document, read-only access, firewalls, and encryption. All files will be kept for seven years after the termination of therapy, at which time they will be destroyed. As for your artwork, we will discuss and agree on what you will want to do with it at the time of termination. I will always make all reasonable efforts to ensure that your file is securely stored and protected from loss, tampering or unauthorized use or access. I will also make reasonable efforts to ensure that the privacy of your file is protected during any authorized transmission or disclosure of information. You and I will discuss your preferences around the storage of your art created in our sessions.
Emergency Contact
If there is an emergency during the time we are working together, or if I as your art therapist becomes concerned about your personal safety, it is required by law and the ethics of the art therapy profession that someone close to you is contacted.
